The following are noteworthy elements of Maurtia Falls during this former era of Petyr Baelish.
1) BUSINESSES (ImPort Created) - The Iron Throne; a gentleman's club run by Petyr Baelish - Hotel Castile; a hotel run by James Patrick March - Osiris; a Mexican Restaurant run by Felix and Locus - Herodotus Antiques; an antique shop run by Bela Talbot - The Red Branch; a pub run by Magicman - Maurtia Falls Psychiatric Hospital for Abnormal Conditions; a psychiatric center run by Frederick Chilton - PMK Enterprises; an investment firm run by Mark Vorkosigan - Law offices of Jeff Winger; law firm run by Jeff Winger (located in Herodotus Antiques) - The Iceberg Lounge; a fancy night club formerly run by Oswald Cobblepot and currently run by Jonathan Joestar - The Munchbox; a diner formerly run by Chrollo Lucilfer - FATE; a nightclub formerly run by Loki
STRUCTURES - The Helix Station: a formidable fortress that serves as the current headquarters for RISE. This building has been used to house natives and provide shelter during times of crisis as well as serve as the battleground for the final fight against Soviet forces in February 2016. - A river runs through the outskirts of the city with a walkway bridge atop. This is a great spot for fishing or just spending time thinking. A few restaurants take advantage of this beauty and overlook the waterfront. - Maurtia Falls has a beautiful, well-groomed park in the center of town. During the daytime, this is the perfect place for children to play, dogs to run about, and couples to go on picnic lunches. At night, you're more likely to find homeless people asleep on the benches or drug dealers doing business than anything else.
MONUMENTS/STATUES - In the park, Baelish has put in a fancy gazebo with flowers woven around banisters and mockingbird motifs carved into the wood. Outside of it is a decorative plaque that reads: "There is no justice in the world unless we make it." - Ambassadorial Office of Petyr Baelish - Surrounding that gazebo is a series of park benches. These are carved of polished marble, being a fancy and decorative addition. Four of these benches are notable for the little placards dedicating them to strong imPort leaders. The inscriptions are as follows: a.) "'Survival of the fittest.' The iron law of Briggs. The strong survive." - Major-General Olivier Armstrong b.) "There is nothing imPorts cannot accomplish together, so long as they are free." - Count Dooku c.) "I know I'm going to commit to never turning a blind-eye, when something seems off. I'd like to hope everyone else will too." - Senator Mitchell Hundred d.) "Transuniversal trauma provokes resilience in the mind." - Doctor Frederick Chilton - Outside of the Helix Station is a statue memorial of a nondescript figure in a cape, holding a gun and looking battle worn. This is meant to represent all imPorts. Inscribed on the base is a quote: "There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul." - Ella Wheeler Wilcox And just beneath that is the inscribed date of the liberation from Soviet forces: February 29th, 2016. Always Remember.
2) Petyr is constantly working with various businesses to improve things for the community as a whole. He managed to convince about 75% of the city's local businesses to raise their starting pay. This has helped to reduce the number of teenagers going into crime immediately as well as give opportunities to those who simply could not make enough to make ends meet on minimum wage. He's also been persuading various businesses to hire on unregistered imPorts without bias.
He's been known to loan out money for people who want to start up their own business and help those businesses to get off the ground or failing businesses to flourish. If you talk to a lot of business owners within the city, they will have largely positive things to say about him. Even those who don't like him personally will grudgingly admit that he knows his way around money.
As of recently, he managed to get the local government to give a tax cut to imPort run businesses of 2% less than native counterparts. It isn't much, he's been known to say, but it's a step in the right direction.
Apart from the business side of things, Petyr helped to get a bill passed with his fellow ambassadors and Ken Kaneki that would allow unsettled imPorts with specialized diets or health needs to still be able to receive what they need without having to register. He also inspired Doctor Chilton to bring his newest, innovative mental health facility to his city which Petyr believes will provide leading care in helping people in need.
Construction has begun on a large library in the center of Maurtia Falls. This library is to be a memorial for the natives who lost their lives in imPort related tragedies as well as become a huge information hub -- full of vast and rare books, including some imPort signed copies of books they have written (looking at you, Doctor Chilton.)
During the blackout crisis, Petyr turned as many of his personal places within Maurtia Falls (his gentleman's club and ambassadorial office) into shelters. He personally fed and gave those in need a warm place to sleep. And when his own spaces got too full, he directed natives to the Helix Station and other shelters imPorts created during that time. As a result, no citizen in true need slept in the cold or didn't have food to eat. He was very active in the community, handing out supplies and calling meetings to update people on what he knew so far. He even took a few punches from dissatisfied natives!
On a normal basis, Petyr regularly donates to many of the local shelters and charities. He'll make appearances at these places to volunteer his time now and then as well. His generous donations have allowed soup kitchens to get upgraded cooking material or build onto their establishment in order to house more people in need. He's also gone to many of the local schools as a guest speaker to talk about how important education and knowledge are to who they'll become. (Most of the kids were bored to tears, though. But he did manage to reach a couple!) Locals will even tell you that Petyr's been seen inviting homeless men to lunch with him, and paying for their meals. What a swell, stand-up guy he is!
3) Petyr campaigned on jobs and education. His entire stance has been that they could reshape Maurtia Falls by reshaping the new generation as well as providing opportunities that weren't there before to the old. So far he's had moderate success in these areas, but he's not finished yet! When his library is complete, he has a variety of programs he wants to create in order to garner traffic into it, including but not limited to imPorts volunteering time to read to the younger kids and classes being taught to uneducated adults that help them learn valuable skills for the work force.
He also intends to do what he can to inspire more imPorts to bring business to Maurtia Falls. More businesses creates jobs which creates opportunities for criminals to rehabilitate themselves. His entire goal is to make Maurtia Falls an economic success. He doesn't promise a quick solution to the crime that plagues the city, but he does promise a lasting one by making it into a place that runs on legitimate capital instead of thriving on dirty money.
Of course, he is willing to work toward more immediate solutions to the worst of the crime that plagues the city now. As it stands, he's content to leave these matters to RISE along with local law enforcement. Policing is their duty and why they set up shop in Maurtia Falls. But he knows there may come a time when RISE isn't enough and they need something more. And Petyr is not opposed to helping create that something more. But most of his emphasis will always be on reshaping the city rather than controlling it.
