You can reserve a character for the next application round HERE.
app rules and directions:
✖ Do not apply until you have read the RULES and FAQ.
✖ You may only apply for one character per cycle.
✖ If you play four characters or more, you must prove your activity levels for them upon submitting any applications for additional characters.
✖ The canon you're applying from must have been out for TWO WEEKS in North America before being deemed appable.
✖ To submit an application, post a single comment reply containing your character's name and series, then post the text of your application in reply to your first comment. No links! All applications are screened.
✖ Format your applications clearly; please refrain from using fancy formatting, bullet points, alternative fonts, or anything else that would make multiple paragraphs of text more difficult to read.
✖ Samples must be set in-game, although a test drive meme or musebox thread may be used in place of one sample requirement.
✖ Applications may only be a maximum of 5000 words, excluding samples, linked text, and final notes. If you are linking to a text that you have written before and not a wikipedia page, it will be included in the wordcount.
✖ Do not join the communities until you've been accepted.
✖ Our game rules regarding behavior still apply even during the application stage; please comply with our instructions and be respectful. Rude, argumentative, or any other concerning behavior that indicates a player may be a hostile presence within the game may influence our decisions on respective processing applications.
✖ Once you are accepted, please follow the directions in your acceptance notice. You must comment to the Registration Page before you can be accepted to the comms.
✖ Your reserves will be held for the first 72 hours. After that, it's fair game!
✖ If you are asked to revise, please reply to the thread with your revisions directly in the comments. Do not overwrite the original application!
✖ If your application is declined, you may not reapply until the following application cycle.
✖ If your application is declined three times, you may not reserve or reapply for that character again until three months have passed since the third decline notice.
✖ Have fun and good luck!
ON APPLICATION CAPS
App cycles are capped at a maximum of 35 applications per round.
APPLICATION FORMS AND GUIDANCE:
canon characters application
〈 PLAYER INFO 〉
NAME: What you would like to go by.
AGE: If you’re willing to share! This field is optional but please specify if you are over or under 18.
JOURNAL: If you don’t have a personal dreamwidth journal, say so!
IM / EMAIL: How we can get a hold of you.
PLURK: If you have one!
RETURNING: If you're already a member of the game, how many characters do you play and who are they? Just so we can keep track!
〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: What’s your character’s given name and Superhero/Villain moniker, if applicable?
CHARACTER AGE: Approximately.
SERIES: What series are they from? e.g. Marvel 616, Naruto, Good Omens, etc.!
CHRONOLOGY: What Issue/Episode/Major Event are they coming into the RP from?
CLASS: Hero or Villain, Anti-Hero or Mass Murdering Psychopath, or just pretending to be one while really acting like the other? This is not reflective of what their tattoo will read upon their arrival.
HOUSING: Would you like to opt-in for your character to housed randomly with other roommates, or to have roommates housed with them? If not, they will be otherwise housed alone. As of the June 2014 app cycle, you may also request to be housed in one of the other three cities if you'd like, rather than in Heropa, or mention if you are open to the possibility.
BACKGROUND:
What is your character’s world like? What is their role in it? In what major canon events did your character play a part, how did your character affect these events, and vice versa? If applicable, what important relationships do they have with other characters in this series? This doesn’t have to be terribly detailed, but we’d like a good picture of their canon to draw from. Please make sure you explain anything particularly series-specific or that we might not understand, and also that it’s in your own words if you are writing the history out.
You may link your history in lieu of writing the entire thing out; however, if the link does not contain sufficient information on both the canon itself and the character's specific role within it, we may ask you to provide this information in your own words.
PERSONALITY:
What is your character like, in at least two paragraphs? What are their dreams, their fears, their motivations, their general quirks and the issues that make them who they are, and does their personality shift in any way after or before the point you are taking them from? If their personality radically shifts due to events during the point in time that you are taking them from, how is their new personality different from their normal one?
POWER:
What is/are your character’s superpower(s)? If they have abilities in their canon source, please list them here. If they do not, please create some! Every character brought into the City must have at least one power, though this may be as useful or as useless as you wish. Please indicate which abilities are canon for your character and which are not. As of October 2015, applicants will no longer be able to use wiki links for their power descriptions. Describe their powers in your own words!
Additionally, each character is permitted an upper limit of three separate powers or closely related related power sets. An example of the latter would be Superman's Kyptonian physiology, which includes extreme strength, speed and flight under the same power umbrella. These power sets are still subject to further limitation depending on their specific details the way regular listed powers would be. At our discretion, we may request that you reduce, readjust, or otherwise redefine your character’s powers in order to acclimate more readily to the game setting. Characters from more Eastern-style sources are to have their powers adapted to a Western setting – for example, characters from the series “Naruto” would turn their most prominent ninjutsu into the super-powers they receive upon arriving here, and characters from table-top RP or similarly stats-based canons must have their abilities changed to be self-sufficient with clearly defined limitations.
Please ensure the powers section clearly states your character's powers underneath the three umbrella system. Specifically, while one umbrella of powers may contain many smaller powers beneath it (i.e., someone with fish powers may have the ability to shoot fish out of their hands, grow gills and communicate with sea life all underneath one umbrella), these powers must be related. In addition, powers must be written out in a narrative description rather than as a video game, table top, or other stat based format. Tell us exactly what your character's powers entail using your own words, avoiding canon-specific jargon that the canonblind (us!) won't be able to understand. For example, instead of your character's fish-shooting ability doing +5 damage, describe how unpleasant it is to be slapped with a fish! Be clear as possible, and we can work with you from there!
〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
How your character will be addressing the game at large. This sample should follow the same rough format as the game proper — a first-person, text/audio/video-based, intentional post to the network community. Preferably at least a paragraph in length, this sample is to show us your character's unique voice. If you can make us laugh or outright scare the pants off us, you’re doing a good job!
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
The name of the game is introspection, folks. This sample will both showcase how you will play in the logs community, and how well you understand your character’s motivations, hopes, dreams, quirks, etc. This sample should be a bit longer than your first, and, again, make us cry, make us laugh, or make us never want to meet your character in a back alley and you’re doing a good job!
Additionally, these sample should also be set in-game, so we can get an idea how you will play this character in a collaborative environment.
A note: In the cases of both first person and third person samples, you may substitute one or the other (but not both) with a thread from our Test Drive meme, or failing that, a musebox. If, however, you are a returning player applying for a character that you have played previously at Mask or Menace, you are allowed to link to posts made by that character in this game.
FINAL NOTES:
Is there anything else about your character that you feel we should know, that isn't covered in any of the earlier sections? Inventory, status of health, etc? This field is optional.

This doesn’t have to be terribly long or detailed, but we’d like a good picture to draw from. Please make sure you explain anything particularly canon-specific or that we might not understand, and make sure you thoroughly explain the canon's world/setting if it differs at all from our own. You may link or copy/paste if you have already written this up before.
