Following the reactivation of the Porter, the US government has stepped forward to take care of and responsibility for the imPort community. While the relationship isn’t always perfect, a working relationship between the native government and the recently arrived imPorts has been developed, including the election of imPort ambassadors in three of the imPort cities.
Government NPCs
CPT. AISHA ANANKE
Lieutenant Captain Aisha Ananke joined the Army when she was 18 and has been steadily rising in position since; she is the who escorts imPorts from Cape Canaveral to their home in Heropa, either one at a time or many depending on how many arrive in one day. This keeps her busy, but not so busy that she won't do whatever else is in her power to make the transition from their life before to their life now easier for imPorts. This is her job: escorting them and protecting them. Since Captain Holiday's removal from his post, Ananke has taken over his duties as imPort/Government Liaison.
While empathetic toward imPorts, Cpt. Ananke's patience wanes quickly when she feels her time is not being used effectively. Her preference is to be direct, but she may ease up in one-on-one conversations. imPorts are free to ask her anything they wish, but they may find she is uncharacteristically cold and unbudging on certain subjects. On the rare occasion she has personal time, she is particularly fond of reading about South American birds.

The media as supported by the government. Here you will find on-goings, going-ons, reports of political turnover, direct addresses from the government on federal and state levels, and imPort opinion from the denizens native to this world. This is the mainstream way for imPorts to broadcast their agenda and business. If you ever need to reference an established senator or diplomat or socialite, this will be the archive to check out.
STATUS: ACTIVE. Published every 10th and 20th of the month.
As the Cold War between the USA and USSR has chilled back to the non-confrontational level it has maintained for the past few decades, the corporate entity known as the OTO has emerged as the primary antagonist of the imPort community. Originally formed by a group of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) defects, the OTO is known to be associated with numerous corporations across the globe and operates in the morally questionable, but entirely legal realm so many megacorporations use to amass power and influence. This group is dedicated to developing cutting edge technology, no matter the costs.
Following a mission to an OTO base orbiting Mars, imPorts learned the OTO is composed of at least two factions. One faction seems determined to eradicate imPorts and make their own breed of superhumans, while the other(s?) are more open to co-habitation in this dimension. What this means for future imPort/OTO interaction is yet to be seen.
STATUS: ACTIVE.
INTERNATIONAL OPINION...
While individual companies associated with the OTO have received negative attention from the US and other governments, including authorizing imPort missions to shut down select operations, the OTO itself has managed to stay in the clear. While their corporate policies are questionable and often toe international law, they are generally regarded by world governments as a benign, if excessively greedy, corporate entity.

HEAVEN SCENT
STATUS: DEFUNCT.
Biotech corporation involved in bioengineering. This company dabbled in projects ranging from perfumes capable of altering human behavior to human cloning.
REXTECH SCIENTIFIC
STATUS: UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.
General technologies based company. Following an imPort raid on their South Korea compound, this corporation is now known to also be involved in weapons and space station development/design.
PERREAULT
STATUS: DEFUNCT.
Publically classified as a French men’s high fashion company. Following an imPort raid on their South Korean compound, was found to be experimenting in chemical/biological compounds.
HORA NUEVA
STATUS: ACTIVE.
The company is primarily focused on new methods of energy creation and engineering, with one of their more highly advertised products at the moment being zero emissions flying cars at an affordable rate (as far as flying cars go, anyway). Like most tech companies, they have a health R&D department looking at new possible products to develop and are known to prefer to buy out any rival company or any one that has a new idea they'd like to develop instead. Is known to have contracted the OTO to test their new ‘Jet-Express’ engine, a device capable of transporting humans from Earth to the moon in two hours or less.
The headquarters are located in Guadalajara, Mexico. The current CEO of the company is Vicente Magaldi.
KNOWN OTO-AFFILIATED NPCS
Audric Müller
STATUS: ACTIVE. A known handler of difficult clients or fixer for the OTO, Müller primarily appears when a deal between the OTO and another corporation/government needs to be finalized. Born in Liechtenstein, his current national affiliation/location are unknown. He appears to be a non-entity within local law enforcement and in the local underworld.

LACHESIS
A mysterious god-like figure with family issues, precisely who or what Lachesis is remains a debate in the native and imPort community. What is known is that without her, imPorts in this world would not exist. She was an ever present figure in a now-destroyed dimension which several of the longest lasting imPorts still remember (the world of ![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png){kind=small}
capeandcowl), and is perhaps best remembered for pulling those imPorts into this present world.
One thing is for sure: she is NOT the Porter in this world.
STATUS: IN HIDING. In the Spring of 2018, Lachesis drained her power to save imPorts from an OTO nuclear strike. Her location is currently unknown and undetectable as she recovers.
Moira Nomos, M.S., is the first voice imPorts will hear when they arrive in Cape Canaveral. Despite the base's Florida location her accent definitely originates from Queens, though she's been working with the military since she was 18 and been this division's head scientist for the past ten years. She's a woman of few words; blunt and to the point most times, but she knows how to give a peptalk and has the imPort introductory spiel memorized.
Moira also operates and maintains the Porters that transport imPorts from place to place. To leave Cape Canaveral or Florida by way of a Porter any imPort will almost certainly find her there to run them through the steps of operation, but she'll also mention that a Porter will only teleport to another active Porter. For such a busy woman she rarely seems flustered or even fazed, and maintains a steady calm no matter how many imPorts might turn up or travel in one day. Her warmth shows itself most in a crisis or on holidays, when she sends out cards.
STATUS: DECEASED. Moira was killed during an attack on the Cape Canaveral military base.
Captain Parc Holiday is the man whose job it is to integrate imPorts not only with society but with military practice; he is the man who gives imPorts their assignments, dispenses (or withholds) benefits, and ensures the government/imPort relations are running in such a way that everyone is satisfied. An ex-Air Force Captain, he is incredibly organized and efficient as a liaison, and he's not even that scary.
Captain Holiday walks with a cane and is rarely seen without a cigarette; he puts one out and then lights another, beware if you catch him between packs. His temperament and tone is authoritative but charming, though whatever sincerity may be wrung from the smoke-hardened gravel of his words doesn't seem to penetrate his eyes -- he's a man who knows what he wants and what he thinks people need, and he'll make things happen regardless of protocol or rules if he feels he has to.
STATUS: DISCHARGED FROM DUTY. As of October 2014, Holiday has been removed from post. He was taken to and cared for at a psychiatric facility up until late May 2015. He will not be resuming his post.
Peter Narga sometimes talks about his upbringing in Beatrice, Nebraska, where the relatively small and tight-knit community founded his compassion and excitement for his fellow human beings. Nebraska, he'd say, was so often a blue collar frontier; everyone pulled their up selves up by their bootstraps, and when they couldn't? Kindhearted visionaries stepped in to help even the lowest of low reach their full and good potential. That's what he wanted to do with his life, he decided rather early on: he wanted to help people manifest their true potential. It's a goal that hinges on individual freedoms, and his philosophy skews his politics more libertarian than not; a fact that often puts him at odds with a militant government.
While Peter is a man of thirty-five, he doesn't seem to have much of a personal life. There's no wife or husband, no children -- he's the sort of guy who gleefully proclaims that he's married to his work. And he's deeply committed to this marriage; he's dedicated years to raising money for homeless shelters and charter schools, he runs anti-government rallies (always peaceable, always clean) when any hint of Big Brotheresque surveillance gains political favor. He's a man who has championed imPort rights as individuals, and chastised Captain Holiday for turning real people into "government stooges". While occasionally inflammatory in his rhetoric, Peter's natural charisma eases him out of the tight spots his mouth lands him -- and his loyal grassroots followers keep bailing him out of jail for any "civil unrest" his admittedly non-violent (but sometimes flamboyant) protests he leads.
Rumors of darker intent have been brewing however. Some of the imPorts he had once been in contact with have fallen out of favor, and it's possible that Narga has since found himself on a very red list.
STATUS: UNKNOWN. POSSIBLY ON THE RUN.
STATUS: DECEASED.
