Government Personnel

CAPE CANAVERAL, FL
Working at the base with the sole Porter that brings imPorts in gives those stationed here a certain sense of responsibility. They're more inclined to do things by the book, and are "big brother" over the other bases in a way.

PHILIP COLEMAN
A middle-aged man who still looks pretty fit, and whose receding hairline still has more pepper than salt in it. Word is that Lieutenant Coleman used to be a crack shot and quite the battleaxe when he was still on active duty. Despite losing an eye and subsequently being relegated to a desk job, Coleman remains full of vim and vigor, and he makes sure everyone knows it. Officially, he’s Captain Holiday’s administrative assistant (or, in his own words, a ‘damn glorified secretary’) overseeing the small day to day affairs that keep the base running smoothly. Though his salty language and dour, drill-sergeant demeanor can be intimidating to fresh recruits, it’s more or less an open secret that he’s got a bleeding heart.

DR. DELILAH MYUNG
One of several research assistants working under Moira Nomos, Dr. Myung originally came to Cape Canaveral in order to study the Porter for her PhD in theoretical physics and hasn't left since. Tall and willowy with a tendency to favor sweeping hand gestures, she gives the impression of being flighty as she moves from one subject to another pretty quickly. As circular as her conversations are, she always seems to manage to bring all of the subjects back around to where she started. She makes connections quickly, and relates them to several other concepts out of nowhere, seemingly jumping to something unrelated before drawing it back in. Her interest in imPorts mainly seems to stem from their relationship to the main Porter and how their arrival changes any patterns in the Porter's energy output, thus considering them another variable in her equations; otherwise, she's entirely indifferent to their presence.

NONAH, NC
Other bases might consider Nonah's agents to be a bit too informal and freewheeling -- not quite bucking the chain of command, per se, but you're more likely to see average grunts not wearing their fatigues as prescribed, or playing cards with their officers.

SIMON GALE
Simon acts as the main Transportation/Vehicles Administrator for all the bases. He's the guy you go to when there’s a mission taking you off base, and his job involves not just supplying the cars, but also allocating which bases and missions get which vehicles. For the most part, he works out of a small room, crunching the number of vehicles vs. the missions they have. It’s not just cars, but jets, tanks, helicopters; even small boats are the kind of thing this guy is in charge of doling out. He has a grim, biting sense of humor and seems to carry a chip on his shoulder for no apparent reason. While he plays no favorites with his vehicle requisitions, he’s seen as being a bit tight fisted: he’s very conservative with what he lets out in terms of supplies, and very unhappy if his equipment comes back damaged. He’s known for three vices: cigarettes, alcohol, and women. To date, he's gone through about three marriages, each one ending with hefty alimonies and children he doesn’t get to see, which seems to keep driving him further into the bottle on his offtime. Despite this, he’s never let it affect his work.

CHANDRA SWEET
Formerly a war journalist, Ms. Sweet now carries the responsibility of coordinating media and communications for the military, a position she'll often remark on with some wryness, given her negative attitude toward it in the past. Her tasks are mainly centered on keeping the public in the loop with the military's efforts, striking a balance between truthful accounts of events and keeping classified information from accidentally being disseminated, while keeping morale and support for the armed forces strong. If it's to do with any televised appearance, radio show, newspaper interview, or public affair, she'll most likely be in the vicinity to make sure any PR disasters in the making are safely averted. A sharply-dressed, attractive woman in her thirties, she looks ten years younger than she really is, though she's routinely turned down any attempts to ask her out. Rumor has it she had an imPort boyfriend, or is carrying a torch for Holiday herself, but no one's been able to get anything out of her about it.

DE CHIMA, VA
Generally considered the oddballs of the bunch, in a vaguely fond way. Many of the employees here are more focused on their own projects than the overall military effort, but their inventions and innovations have made the lives of a lot of soldiers easier.

DR. JOY MERRYWEATHER
Despite her name, one of the research administrators of the Medical Research Division is quiet and serious, rarely seen cracking a smile. Her demeanor, however, is best described as antsy rather than dour: on the average day, she all but hummed with barely controlled energy, and seems to thrive off going without sleep for hours at a time. While her bedside manner may be lacking, she's one of the best damn surgeons you’ll ever see, capable of making quick diagnoses and life-saving snap decisions that turn out right 99% of the time. Non-human physiology and technology that can be adapted for medical use (such as robotic prostheses) are areas of research that particularly interests her, and anyone who might have information to offer in that department is likely to be subjected to the uncomfortable experience of having all her intense scrutiny directed on them.

VINCENT TEVEZ
While Merryweather's job is putting people together, Vincent's is coming up with new ways of taking them apart (or keep them from being so). His title is deceptively mild -- Weapons Research and Development Technical Assistant -- but within the modest building specially set aside for his division's use (two stories high, five levels underground) one minor disaster a day is usually par for the course as they run tests on new equipment. Vincent himself is friendly enough, with an easy smile for everyone, but the man has a remarkably cavalier attitude towards life and limb in the pursuit of his craft. Given even the smallest opening, he'll take the opportunity to attempt to persuade others into coming down to the laboratory to assist whatever his latest project might be, which could be anything from testing the effectiveness of a new truth serum antidote, bio weapon cure, or miniature weapon of mass destruction. Anyone unwittingly press-ganged into service can take some comfort in knowing there are more recorded deaths in the facility due to slip-and-fall incidents rather than these experiments, but there's always a first time for everything.

MAURTIA FALLS, PA
People here generally fall into one of two categories: those who play the system, and those resigned to it. Being sent here tends to be seen as a punishment, but while there tends to be a stigma attached to it, it's also developed an odd, close-knit sort of camaraderie and pride in being willing to take anyone in. Besides: everyone knows if you want soldiers you can count on to get a job done, you can find them here.

SIERRA THORPE
Sierra is more cynical than her age would warrant, and that’s largely due to being assigned to Maurtia Falls for the last two years, as one of the mid-level intelligence division leads -- essentially something of a spy. She's pragmatic enough to recognize that Maurtia Falls is a pretty corrupt place and unlikely to stop being so, a fact that perpetually annoys her. She’s one of those people that came in with stars in her eyes, convinced that a difference could be made, but as time went on, they gradually became more and more bitter. Now she’s more of a hardass than strictly necessary, never letting the rules bend for even the most mundane of activities. On the base, she’s known as something of a stick in the mud for always following the rules, and anyone who doesn’t is given probably a sterner talking to than necessary. No holds barred, no nonsense, and working her ass off to get to the place she’s even at, but too bitter and uninspired at this point to ever aspire for anything better than one day getting out of here.

NICK JACKSON
This guy’s a scumbag. The kind of guy that everything was always easy for. Always something of a joker, with an easy-going personality that could suck someone in one moment, and the kind that meant that they could get really anything they wanted. A charismatic shit with the sort of look that can draw you in, and show genuine interest in anything you’re saying. The kind of person that’s really easy to like, and never really seems to be the kind of person that will betray any confidence, but the moment he knows there’s a weakness, it will be exploited, although it may not necessarily be by him. He’s got a great relationship with the cops in the area, and tends to have an easy, casual conversation, but it’s strange that a grunt like him has such a nice place to stay off the base, and that he never seems to live light. Like he’s getting a little something under the table, or maybe the cops and he have a great relationship for other reasons. It’s rumored that he may have connections to other rings, but nobody quite knows what the connection is.

Local Faces in Heropa

MAX ESPOSITO
A saxophonist from Atlantic City, he never had much luck at home and ended up in the cape through a long and convoluted younger life, where he eventually established a jazz club in Heropa. The Last Call lounge is known as the place that stays open well after the rest of Heropa's gone to sleep. Its owner, now in his mid-fifties, is a bit of a raconteur, and he always has a story for anyone who'll spare their ear.

WALT TAYLOR
Postal worker in his early thirties, Walt is exactly the sort of guy you'd expect to see in the setting when he delivers your mail each day. He’s very down to earth and friendly, born and raised in Heropa, he's very personable if you should meet him off his route. Nuclear family with 2.5 kids, can be seen with wife Edna at the Last Call on Saturday nights.

AVA SITTA
Ava looks a little out of place in Heropa, like someone maybe five years ahead of everyone else, more comfortable in an early 60’s beach movie. In her early twenties, she operates the malt shop many characters will see on their first day, since she offers them all a free malt. You can see her on the beach often in warmer weather, and she hosts an annual volleyball tournament each summer. She can be sly with a playful sense of humor, but is much savvier than she seems. She hears a lot of rumors, and if properly motivated, can make a good source of information.

DOMINIC ALVES
Dominic is a pre-teen boy that takes great pride in delivering papers no matter the weather. Spends the money he makes on new gadgets and is always showing them off if he happens to catch someone outside their home. When asked about his family, he’ll mention a baby sister that gets on his nerves sometimes, but, shucks golly, he sure does love her.

BILLY TAYLOR & JOEY WALKER
Two teenage boys who have turf wars over who gets to mow which lawn. Lots of spreadsheets and use of the new technology to carefully ‘split’ the lawns, some poor imPort’s front yard may end up halved. Billy enjoys talking about his latest purchases and comic books while Joey enjoys talking about food as well as his baby sister. They take their part time job seriously and feud with each other often, sometimes even in front of their clients.

FERTRUDE BLATHERS
A local pet shop owner, Fertrude also hosts training seminars for disobedient kitties. She has her own newspaper column focused on the changes of education in the community and often covers events once a month. In her early forties, she’s one of those awkward ladies you know lives alone with her pets and has no family so she kind of compensates for it elsewhere. Difficult to talk to, focuses more on writing things down in her lace-covered notebook mid-conversation, and disregards social cues.

BENNY TALBOT
Benny, now in his early fifties, owns the small newsstand that has brightly colored bricks on each stack of magazine and papers in order to ward off sticky fingers—you’ll know it when you see it. Rents out umbrellas due to spontaneous rainstorms in this crazy Florida weather and is such a nice guy that most of them end up back at his shop without him having to ask for them back. His friendliness in contagious and lots of people can't help smile when they're doing business with him. Remembers most of the troubles his customers has and often asks how they're doing if he sees them later on.

GAVRIL IGNATYEV
Gavril escaped the iron curtain when he was a teenager, and on coming to America quickly found himself practicing a trade. He didn't open his barbershop, but inherited it from his mentor when they retired, and to his customers seems like a very clean-cut and friendly guy, if a bit intense at times. In his mid-thirties, he likes to talk about how great America is and what great opportunities it's afforded him over his motherland when the other person is glad to hear it, and sometimes even when they don't. Sometimes he can be heard muttering under his breath in Russian, and it's only if you can understand him that the truth is more apparent. He is actually very bitter, though usually good at hiding it professionally. He has few real friends, and many of Heropans are wary of him, even paranoid. You might see him drinking heavily at the last call every now and then.

CLAUDIA BLATHERS
Stern, was a teacher for most of her career up until she became principal. Prominently known for rounding up volunteers last minute for school run projects and events. Very devout to her beliefs and has her office covered in posters and plaques stating them so there's no question about it. Suffocating presence, though she tries to alleviate the intimidation when it comes to the younger children. Shows no favoritism, but she does have a soft side to a couple of the underdog academic teams. In her late thirties, she has no children, but is active in the dating scene. Does not like talking about her older sister.

GREGORY TRUTH
An elementary school bus driver, Gregory’s a man in his early twenties with a high tolerance for the noisy kids, but no patience for the other drivers on the road. Lots of road rage, but the children love to react to him. Buff guy with a pierced nose, lots of tattoos that he keeps covered up, kids speculate on what gang he may be affiliated with as a result.

MARCUS SHAUN
A general practitioner who is fond of cartoon shows, which means he has an avid interest in the "superheroes" that are imPorts. The go to guy for colds and quick illnesses, though he doesn't make any house calls. In his mid-forties, he frequently visits health forums and is notoriously a troll; most people only use him if they can't get in with their primary care physicians. The brave of the brave call on his services. If you want an easy prescription provided and can endure all the talk about whatever show he watched the night before, he's your man.

MAUREEN GONZALES
Public transit bus driver in her late sixties. Has been on the streets for a long time and looks forward to retirement. Enjoys the atmosphere and often shares baked goods she made from home with the travelers who have a poor diet of just coffee. Often skips stops by accident, but she's so sweet that no one makes a big deal about it. Has a large family that always visits for holidays and leaves her talking about them for months in-between.

ADRIAN “PETEY” PETERSEN
Petey is a hard one to really figure out for most people. You can see him wandering out in the streets every now and then, always very unkempt, rambling on about this conspiracy or that. He’s not known to have a job, but he might hand you one of the pamphlets he's written if you're nice. But maybe not, he can be pretty paranoid. In his late forties, he claims to live "off the grid", but it's possible he may not have a home whatsoever. He’s also made claims to be a veteran, but which war changes every time. His paranoia's only increased since imPorts returned. Most Heropans consider him a nuisance.

RUPERT MENDEZ
Dreaming of becoming a crusading journalist is an odd position when you're in a base town, but Rupert, early thirties, sticks to his roots. Still living in his hometown of Heropa, he works for the Cape Canaveral branch of the Orlando Sentinel, where he's respected, but hasn't quite earned his stripes. He’s made a couple of hard-hitting investigative reports, but his best stories were buried due to the involvement of classified information. He’s married to his job, much to the chagrin of his family and friends, who tend to worry about how dedicated he tends to be. He and Captain Holiday are regrettable familiar with each other.

Cultural Icons

REGINALD “REGGIE” PRESSLEY
A new musical sensation with a soothing, versatile voice and impressive choreography skills, Reggie has captured hearts everywhere, along with the skeptical disapproval of parents. Charismatic, charming, rebellious. He’s a musician possessing a handsome countenance bright blue eyes and dark brown hair with a slight curl in the front, with a long nose and a strong chin. He likes to flex his muscles at every opportunity, but standing at 5’5’’, he’s somewhat self-conscious about his height and is reluctant to comment on it.

VERONICA STONE
Impulsive, ambitious, stubborn, and a bit reckless, Veronica is a stunning actress with long auburn hair and green eyes. Tall and slender, she always strives to look fashionable, loves to wear high heels, though she possesses short nails from a habit of biting them when stressed. Always with a dream of reaching stardom, Veronica has worked diligently to see her goal realized, though she can be overly competitive at times. Regardless of her best efforts, however, she can never seem to achieve equivalent fame as Betty Dean, or her disdain. For an inexplicable reason, she can’t get thoughts of Betty out of her mind; she simply reassures herself that this is typical of all intense rivalries.

BETTY DEAN
Considered a cinematic sweetheart, Betty started her acting career from a young age and has won the hearts of thousands ever since. Carefree, polite, kind, gentle; all endearing traits, but Betty can be somewhat oblivious, with a tendency to miss subtle cues in communication. With dark brown eyes in a heart-shaped face, and shoulder-length black hair with cerulean blue highlights, she’s hard to miss. A few years older than Veronica, although everyone assumes she’s younger because of her petite height. In spite of Veronica’s endeavor to become her archrival, she never viewed her as such and actually harbors a crush on her would-be competitor.

CHARLOTTE S. WEBB
Charlotte is famous for her supernatural romance series “Dusk,” in which John Sullen, a tortured man who transforms into a unicorn during the full moon, falls in love with Anne Eagle, a new student at Spoons University. As for Charlotte herself, she carries an air of mystery: her light hazel eyes are usually covered with sunglasses, and her long blond hair is always pulled up in a high ponytail. Often found wearing a red trench coat with matching heels, she’s an enthusiastic woman, witty and flirtatious to boot.

SWAGGY-SWAG MCSWAG
Rowdy, outspoken, and aggressive, Swaggy-Swag McSwag is a chart-topping rapper credited for Top 100 Hits such as “Swaggin’ Past Bedtime,” “Swag in the Bag,” and “Scooby-Doo and Swaggy Too.” Mixed race (half-Hispanic, half-Japanese), he’s often seen wearing low-riding jeans and sports jerseys with various items of gold jewelry—his boxers, frequently visible, usually depict cartoon characters. Easy to recognize, he has a facial tattoo with the word “SWAG” beneath his right eye and a kanji character on his neck that must have been done by someone who doesn’t actually speak Japanese, since nobody has been able to decipher what it says. Enjoys shuttershades. Swaggy-Swag recently spent several months in rehab for addiction to Elmer’s glue, and has been banned from the State of Wyoming for several incidents involving drunken cow-tipping.

LONDON MARRIOTT
An internet blogger, London’s known for getting the “inside scoop” on celebrities and famous figures, posting them on her online blog “London Sees You” for the masses. A petite and freckled red-head who usually wears her hair in a bun at the back of her head, she often sports purple cat-eye glasses and colorful scarves. Nosy, antagonistic, and wily, she is widely unpopular among the stars, but well-known by the public and a popular source of celebrity news. Maybe she’ll take an interest in the new wave of ImPorts...

LILY BELL
A studious, intelligent woman from humble beginnings, Lily has lived her life with the ideal that determination can take her anywhere. The first in her family to graduate from college and law school, Lily has taken a hiatus from her career as a law professor to pursue politics. Serious, diligent, and determined, her honesty sets her apart. With dark brown eyes, and light brown hair that falls just above her shoulders, she’s usually dressed in a black suit and skirt, though she much prefers casual wear. When she’s not on duty for her campaign, she’s often found in more comfortable outfits – but casual has to wait. With an upcoming election., she’s encountering considerable competition from the incumbent, Senator Bellermine Rainer.

SENATOR BELLERMINE RAINER
The son of a former presidential candidate who came from old money, but although his father never won the presidential election, Bellermine is now one of the nation’s youngest senators at only 31 years old. He’s rumored to bend the rules, or even be corrupt, but is clever enough to have avoided any such claims being proved. Subtly condescending and intelligent. Arrogant, but charming, with an Adonis-like face, blond curls and a rosy complexion in a classically handsome face. Well-dressed with attention to detail. Generally being loomed over by his bodyguard, a tall dark man called Weston. He has his eye on his strongest competition, Lily Bell. Their battle for the senatorial seat has been fierce in the widely publicized “Battle of the Bells.”

BARTOLOMEO ZOCCARATO
An eccentric fashion designer, Bartolomeo— who sometimes goes by Mimi— has a non-binary gender identity. Thin, pale, and androgynous with a shaved bald head, they’re dramatic and mysterious, and often wear signature cat eye-liner and billowy black clothes. Has a sixth finger on their left hand, which they usually decorate with a statement ring and black nail polish. A famous “designer to the stars,” they’re the lead designer for their own personal luxury line—“MeZ”—which shows regularly at prestigious fashion weeks.

MI-CHA
A perky TV Personality, Mi-Cha uses her daytime talk show (the “Me & Mi-Cha” show) to promote music, books, and art, as well as products and issues involving especially women’s health and politics. Often hosts other famous individuals. A Korean-American with thick blunt bangs and long hair, she’s known for her flamboyant, bright attire and fantastical shoes. Constantly smiling, enthusiastic, and cheerful, she’s an especially popular TV personality among minorities and is known for giving away spectacular, lavish prizes to audience members during her shows.

DEMEKE WARO
An immigrant from Ethiopia, Celebrity Chef Demeke is a large and handsome-faced man with a wide smile and a deep, robust laugh. He is usually seen wearing his white chef’s coat during his TV and public appearances, along with an earthy-colored headband across his forehead. Raised by his parents in an Ethiopian village, Demeke was educated in Europe before he came to the United States to attend medical school. However, after two years, he realized that his passion was cooking and decided to pursue what he truly enjoyed. The result was several best-selling cookbooks and a popular cooking show. Confident, passionate, and charismatic, and a little brash, he guest stars often on talk shows and is a regular judge on a handful of cooking competition shows as well.
